Dear citizen,

In the competition called "Istanbul Emblem" organized by the Istanbul Provincial General Assembly, the graphic artist named Metin Erdemit was declared the winner by Vefa Poyraz, the governor of Istanbul, on February 24, 1969. In fact, the second and third places in this competition belong to the same designer.

Inspired by the Istanbul skyline, the artist used the Bosphorus, minarets, walls and seven hills in his design, and accomplished a very successful job for his period.

The 4 minarets in the logo represent the important mosques of Istanbul, the 7 triangular symbols represent the 7 important hills of the city, and the semicircular shape at the bottom represents the Bosphorus and its walls. The work produced by the artist in 1969 has preserved its originality until today.
